Well, I say I’m back at The Times, but at the moment I’m on the farm in Yamhill, Oregon, discussing column ideas with Connie, Chief Security Officer at Kristof Farms. She can’t believe The Times isn’t all over the gopher story.
But I’m also back at The New York Times, in that I’ve resumed my twice-a-week column. That’s why I haven’t written for Substack lately: I’ve been writing columns about Ukraine, Iran and left-behind Americans.
I hope you’ll sign up for free email alerts to let you know when I have a Times column published. You can sign up here. And tell your kids/parents/friends to sign up! Alternatively, if you have the Times app on your phone, you can sign up for email alerts within the app, under “account,” then “settings,” and then “push notifications” and scroll down.
I also welcome your suggestions for topics to write about (or do videos about) in 2023. You can reach me at kristof-newsletter@nytimes.com.
I also have to give a plug for one of my favorite columns each year: My annual holiday giving guide. This year I recommend one international organization and two American nonprofits, and we’ve already raised more than $3.2 million in just a few weeks. I hope you’ll check out the organizations and take advantage of the matching funds at the giving site.
While I won’t be writing regularly here, you can follow me on Facebook or Instagram. We also have an occasional Kristof Farms newsletter with tales of fending off bears from our cider apples and Pinot Noir grapes. Producing hard cider and fine Pinot has been a wonderful family challenge, and you can find out more or sign up for the newsletter on our farm website. I’m only the assistant editor of that project; my daughter and her boyfriend are editors in chief.
So warmest holiday greetings from the farm, and I hope you will sign up for alerts to get my column!
Welcome back to the Times, Nick! Appreciate your perspective, and informed recommendations regarding charitable giving.
Love and care for each other is powerful! With care and effective effort and coordination, we make a positive difference in the world. I think the key is to always keep asking, "What works?" and to not get bogged down in rigid ideological stances. And for care to always be at the heart.
So glad to read you wherever you write. But very lucky for Times readers that you are back. I live in France and, although not a third world anything, there is lots going on re: support for Ukraine; corruption with Qatar, etc etc would love to read your take on all of this.
Happy Holidays from Paris
